Growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I loved to sit around my grandparent’s home, along with with a multitude of cousins, and listen to my dad and his brothers tell crazy stories; mostly about growing up in a family with seven boys (“The Brothers”).
There was always a new tale and they could definitely spin a yarn! Occasionally, Mamaw would chime in to correct the record!
At the time, I thought they were interesting and so very, very funny (mostly). Later, I came to realize that they were bringing me inside their lives. They were giving me a glimpse of what, and who, made them who they are, even though that wasn’t the real point of the story. That was the bonus!
I learned a lot about my dad, my aunts and uncles, my grandparents, my community, and life in the mid-1900’s Deep South. In small town America, people are connected in ways I didn’t quite understand yet.
It was through these stories that I started to associate people with places and events. I began to understand my roots, my history, and the town I grew up in. Listening to these stories is how I learned to love and appreciate personal history and how we are all connected. In fact, I am fascinated by it.
Everyone has a personal story. When we listen to them, we give ourselves an opportunity to learn something. Hopefully, we allow people to speak to our hearts, to inspire us, to help us grow as people, and to appreciate this wonderful life we live.
Autobiography Podcast™ was created to provide our guests a vehicle to tell their stories and to give listeners like you an opportunity to hear about everyday, yet intriguing, individuals. Some of our guests you may already know, many you will not.
I invite you to listen to their stories. You may discover that while the details differ, we are all on this same incredible journey, called life.
